Opportunity: Artists Trip to Glasgow International Art Fair

In order to support the career progression of Sheffield based visual artists, Making Ways are planning to a series of trips to festivals, art fairs and events. This includes Glasgow International Art Fair. This programme aims to offer a group of four artists the opportunity to see and be inspired by a wide range of artworks, network with people outside of Sheffield and widen their potential for collaboration.

Glasgow International is Scotland’s largest festival for contemporary art, taking place over three weeks every two years. Renowned as a centre for contemporary art, the festival draws on the city’s strengths as a vibrant and distinctive centre of artistic production and display.

Travel dates: Thursday May 4-Friday May 5th

Making Ways will provide:

.  Travel between Sheffield and Glasgow

.  1 night accommodation in Glasgow

.  An itinerary of structured visits through the Art Fair

Artists will need to cover the costs of their own food and expenses whilst there, including any travel within the city.


Who can apply?

To be eligible to be selected for this trip:

.  Applicants must be visual artists with their practice rooted in contemporary art including a variety of medium: drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, collage and installations; performance art; film based disciplines such as photography, artists’ film and video, digital and/or interactive works; environmental, land art and street art; ceramics, textiles, metalwork and applied arts. Note: Theatre is not eligible for this funding.

.  Artists must be based in Sheffield, either working here or living here. ‘Sheffield’, in this instance is classed as within Sheffield City Boundaries which are not necessarily the same as the ‘S postcode’. There is a link to a map here – http://mdfs.net/Docs/Sheffield/Borders/1918.gif

.  Practitioners at all stages of their career, who have demonstrated a commitment developing their practice through new work, new skills or new opportunities, are eligible to apply.

Artists need to fill in the Expression of Interest Form and return this to janet.jennings@museums-sheffield.org.uk by the deadline of April 11th 2018
