Sheffield City of Makers

Final Making Ways Open Call – Deadline July 1st

Posted on 06.03.2018

The final round for Making Ways Open Call funding is now open and has an overall budget of £15k available. Please get your Expression of Interest Form (EoI) in by July 1st 2018.

We are seeking applications from Visual Artists based in Sheffield who want to develop new projects, or undertake research and development to help progress their career. The funding aims to improve the creative and professional practice of individual designer/makers and visual artists, through awarding grants to part-fund their own projects.

We are looking to engage with artists who are working across the whole spectrum of visual arts from drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, collage and installations to live art; as well as film based disciplines such as photography, artists’ film and video, digital and/or interactive works; environmental, land art and street art and applied arts such as ceramics, textiles and metalwork.

The following funding is available:
Strand 1: Project Funding – for exhibitions, participatory projects and/or one off events. Grants of between £2-4k are available.
Strand 2: R+D Funding – This strand is for self-led professional development and experimentation. It is aimed at giving artists an opportunity to reflect on their practice without the expectation of a finished artwork or exhibition outcome or offer opportunities to develop professional knowledge through visits and/or attending workshops. Grants of between £500 and £1500 are available.

Projects must be completed by April 2019.
You can find full details here. The Expression of Interest Form can be found here.

Examples of projects funded in Round 1 include: Here I Am and Take Me to your Leader II and details of successful Round 2 applicants can be found here.

Visual Arts Awards Open Call forms part of Making Ways, a new programme supported by Sheffield Culture Consortium through Arts Council England to showcase, celebrate and develop the exceptional contemporary visual art produced in the city.
