Construction House: Leisure Time
Posted on 28.11.2018
S1 Artspace, 1 Norwich St, Park Hill, Sheffield, S2 5PN
6 Dec – 9 Feb
Construction House is a six-month programme of commissions, exhibitions, events and activities by S1 Artspace studio holders, which will reflect on the philosophy and relevance of the influential Bauhaus movement for today’s practicing artist. The Bauhaus celebrates its centenary in 2019.
Leisure Time is the second in the Construction House series. The exhibition looks at the Bauhaus lifestyle, which promoted a holistic view of the mind and body. Based on Bauhaus Master Johannes Itten’s teaching methods, Leisure Time explores the creative potential of physical activity and relaxation through newly commissioned work by artists Natalie Finnemore, Vicky Hayward and Lucy Vann, alongside Gertrud Grunow’s Colour Circle and Bauhaus student T. Lux Feininger’s iconic photographs of Karla Grosch’s gymnastics classes on the Bauhaus Dessau roof.
To coincide with this Exhibition, S1 Artspace are holding a programme of events.
